The Heiligenkreuz Abbey is a significant Cistercian abbey in Lower Austria, situated in the Vienna Woods. It is the second oldest continuously existing Cistercian monastery worldwide and is distinguished by its dedication to monastic life, liturgy, and Gregorian chant in Latin.

The monastery was founded in 1133 by Leopold III of the Babenberg dynasty. It was settled by the mother monastery of Morimond in Burgundy and has existed without interruption ever since. The abbey's patronage is dedicated to Mary and the Holy Cross. Over the centuries, the monastery developed into an important religious and cultural center, with its monks devoted to pastoral care in numerous parishes as well as to scholarship and teaching.
