Sinsheim Abbey

The origins of Sinsheim Abbey date back to around 1000, when the Salian Count Otto of Worms founded a collegiate church on a site presumably already settled by the Romans. Between 1092 and 1100, Bishop Johannes converted the complex into a Benedictine monastery. In 1496, it was again transformed into a secular collegiate church, before Elector Palatine Frederick III dissolved it in 1565. During the Thirty Years' War, an attempt at restoration was made, but the monastic complex fell into disrepair. From 1887, a children's educational institution was established, from which today's state youth home emerged.
