Northeast of the village of Kenmore in the Scottish Highlands stands Taymouth Castle, a Neo-Gothic castle built at the beginning of the 19th century.

History+

The history of Taymouth Castle begins on a site that once housed Bulloch Castle, a fortress built around 1550. The Campbells of Breadalbane, one of Scotland's wealthiest landowning families, had Bulloch Castle demolished to make way for their new family seat. Construction of Taymouth Castle spanned several decades. The central building with its four corner towers was completed in 1806 according to designs by James and Archibald Elliot. The completion of the complex only occurred in 1842, just in time for Queen Victoria's visit. The Campbells invested in the interior decoration, which included ceiling paintings by Cornelius Dixon, stucco work by Francis Bernasconi, and interior design by James Gillespie Graham. Until the end of World War I, Taymouth Castle served as a family residence, but had to be sold due to high costs.
