Tempio di Antonino e Faustina
The Temple of Antoninus Pius and Faustina is located at the northern edge of the Roman Forum in Rome. Its transformation into a church contributed to its preservation.
Emperor Antoninus Pius commissioned this temple in 141 AD to honor his deceased wife Faustina. After his own death in 161 AD, the temple was also dedicated to him. The facade has six 17-meter-high columns made of Cipollino marble, complemented by two additional columns on each side. The cella of the temple is adorned with a frieze depicting griffins and plant ornaments. In the 11th century, the structure was converted into the Church of San Lorenzo in Miranda, which was crucial for its current condition.
The building is located in Rome, in the Province of Rome, in the Lazio region of Italy. It stands at an elevation of approximately 14 meters above sea level.
