The origins of the establishment date back to after 1228, when it was founded as a Templar commandery. Following the dissolution of the Templar Order, the complex was transferred to the Knights Hospitaller, who continued its operation. Under the administration of the Hospitallers, the monastery developed further until its dissolution during the secularization period in 1794/1795. The monastic church was dedicated to Saint Peter.
