Thirlwall Castle

The remains of the ruins can be visited

Near the village of Greenhead in Northumberland, England, lies Thirlwall Castle, the ruin of a fortress. Its uniqueness lies in its construction, as it was built in the 12th century from stones taken from the nearby Hadrian's Wall.

History+

The origins of Thirlwall Castle date back to the 12th century, when the castle was constructed from the stone material of the Roman Hadrian's Wall. In 1330, the complex was expanded by John Thirlwall. Later, in 1542, Robert Thirlwall was the owner of the castle.
