Tolquhon Castle
Tolquhon Castle, a ruin in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, is an example of late 16th-century Scottish architecture. The complex stands out due to its unusual gun ports and the stone tilework in the main hall.
History+
The current castle complex was constructed between 1584 and 1589 under William Forbes, the seventh Laird of Tolquhon. It replaced an earlier tower house known as Preston's Tower, whose remains are still preserved today as the left tower when viewed from the gatehouse. The design of the gun ports in the towers adjacent to the entrance was later emulated in Dean Castle.
