Near the East Westphalian village of Albaxen in the district of Höxter, the Tonenburg, a fortress, rises. Its location above the Weser River and within sight of the Benedictine Abbey of Corvey.

History+

The Tonenburg was built in 1315 under Abbot Ruprecht von Horhausen (or von Tomberg) from Corvey. It served to defend against the Dukes of Braunschweig and the Counts of Everstein. Shortly after its completion, the castle was captured by the Counts of Everstein. In 1332, the Welfs under Otto and Magnus von Braunschweig succeeded in conquering the Tonenburg.
