Toppler Castle
The so-called Toppler Castle is a small medieval castle-like building in the Tauber Valley near Rothenburg ob der Tauber, which was built by the Rothenburg mayor Heinrich Toppler in 1388 in the style of a so-called fortified house or moated house.
It consists of a stone substructure in the manner of a defensive tower and upper floors made of half-timbering. It is surrounded by a garden that could be flooded if necessary. Since 1861, Toppler Castle has been owned by the Boas family, who rented it out as a holiday home until the 1960s.
The completely preserved building is furnished with furniture from the 16th to 19th centuries. It can be visited and offers interesting insights into late medieval living conditions.
