Trendelburg Castle

The origins of Trendelburg Castle date back to the 13th century, when Konrad III von Schöneberg had it built on a strategically important sandstone rock. Its location at a ford across the Diemel and on trade routes made it a coveted possession. After changing affiliations, including to the Bishopric of Paderborn, the castle finally came into the possession of the Hessian landgraves in 1465. During the Thirty Years' War, Trendelburg was repeatedly captured and burned down by Tilly's troops. In the Seven Years' War, the castle also suffered damage from shelling.
