The Lower Castle Kuchenheim, once a moated castle, is located in the Kuchenheim district of Euskirchen. Its original layout on two islands on the Erftmühlenbach is only visible in a few remnants today.

History+

The first documented mention of the Lower Castle Kuchenheim dates back to 1482. Originally, the complex was designed as a moated castle and extended over two islands, situated directly on the Erftmühlenbach. The manor house, built of quarry stone, which formed the main part of the castle on the smaller island, is presumed to have been a former residential tower. The castle's original structure was divided by a road, separating the main castle from the former outer bailey. Of the outer bailey, the gatehouse from 1573 is known.
