Lower Castle Allensteig

The Meierhof (also known as the lower castle or "Schlössl"), located below Allensteig Castle, is connected to it by a covered passage. It was built from the late 15th to the mid-16th century. It is a horseshoe-shaped complex with a large courtyard, enclosed by extensive farm buildings. The gate tower with a basket-arch portal and stone frame is dated 1525. Above it is a coat of arms of the Hager family, dated 1646. To the east, a two-story residential building with a stair tower and courtyard arcades from 1546 adjoins. In the eastern corner stands a former tower from the late 15th century. Further farm buildings from the 17th/18th century are located nearby, in whose west wall remnants of the medieval city wall are preserved. On the ground floor of the residential building, net-rib vaults and Renaissance mirror vaults with the Hager coat of arms from the mid-16th century are preserved, as well as Baroque stucco mirrors on the upper floor.
