History+

The Stein complex was first documented in 1135. From the early 13th century until 1633, the castle was owned by the Törring family. Albert von Törring-Stein served as Bishop of Regensburg from 1613 to 1649, and Adam Lorenz von Törring-Stein held the same office from 1663 to 1666. In 1633, Count Carl Fugger von Kirchberg acquired the property from the Törrings. Later, through marriage, the castle came into the possession of the Barons von Lösch. As part of Bavarian reforms, a Patrimonial Court of the Second Class was established from the former Hofmark in 1818. In 1845, Amélie de Beauharnais, the widow of the Emperor of Brazil, purchased the castle for herself and her daughter.
