Monastery Sankt Maria in Neuburg

The foundation of St. Maria Convent took place around the year 1700, initiated by Elector Johann Wilhelm of Pfalz-Neuburg. The Ursulines, an order dedicated to the education of girls, established an important educational institution here for all social classes. The convent gained supra-regional importance as the mother convent of the Ursulines in Southern Germany and had its own church dedicated to St. Ursula. During the Bavarian secularization, the convent was initially converted into a central convent in 1809 and finally dissolved in 1813. From 1816, the former convent buildings housed a study seminary and a gymnasium, which continue to exist today. The former convent church now serves as the study church of St. Ursula and houses the Catholic Academy. There, valuable antependia from the early 18th century, crafted at the convent and considered significant textile works of their era, are also exhibited.

The former convent is located in Neuburg an der Donau, a town in the district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen in Bavaria, Germany.

The former convent church of St. Ursula is used as a study church and is also the location of the Catholic Academy. an exhibition in the church displays artistic antependia made of silk with gold and silver threads, which were crafted at the Ursuline Convent in the early 18th century.
