Ursulinenkloster Straubing

The convent was founded in 1691 under the patronage of Elector Maximilian II Emanuel of Bavaria, with the Ursulines from Landshut playing a crucial role. The convent was dissolved in 1809 during secularization, but was re-established by 1827. The Ursulines subsequently dedicated themselves to education, establishing a teacher training college in 1867 and a commercial school in 1898. During the Nazi regime, the schools were closed from 1939 to 1945. The church, whose foundation stone was laid in 1736, was built under the direction of Egid Quirin Asam, who was also responsible for the stucco work. His brother Cosmas Damian Asam contributed as a painter to the interior, which Egid Quirin completed after Cosmas Damian's death. The solemn consecration of the church took place in May 1741 by Prince-Bishop Johann Theodor of Bavaria, on the occasion of the convent's fiftieth anniversary.

The convent is located in the city of Straubing, in the district of Straubing-Bogen in Bavaria, Germany. It is a central part of the city's historical ensemble.

Today, the Ursuline Convent in Straubing houses a gymnasium, a Realschule, and a technical academy for social pedagogy, complemented by an affiliated kindergarten. These educational institutions are under ecclesiastical sponsorship and continue the Ursulines' long tradition in education. The Church of the Immaculate Conception is accessible from Burggasse and is situated within the convent complex.
