In Hechingen, located in the Zollernalbkreis in Baden-Württemberg, Villa Eugenia was the last residence of the Princes of Hohenzollern-Hechingen. Originally conceived as an early classicist pleasure garden house, it was later expanded into a palace.

History+

The building was constructed in 1786/87 as a pleasure garden house, after Prince Josef Friedrich Wilhelm abandoned the old pleasure garden and had the current Prince's Garden laid out south of the city. The designs by E. A. von Lammerz were altered during construction. A significant expansion for the hereditary princely couple took place between 1833 and 1834, adding two side wings. Hereditary Princess Eugénie de Beauharnais financed this by selling her Eugensberg Castle. The villa was named after her. In the first half of the 19th century, under Prince Konstantin, the villa became the center of court life.
