The Monument to the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig commemorates the Battle of Leipzig in 1813. It is among Europe's largest monuments and, with its silhouette, shapes the cityscape of the Saxon metropolis.

History+

The Battle of Leipzig, which took place in October 1813, was an engagement of the Wars of Liberation, in which Napoleon's troops suffered a defeat against the allied powers. Soon after the event, initial ideas for a memorial structure emerged. However, its realization was delayed because Saxony had fought on Napoleon's side in the battle.
