Geyso Castle

The two-story castle was presumably built around the year 1600. In 1710, Johann Leopold von Geyso, a scion of an old knightly family from Mansbach, acquired the estate in Roßdorf. Shortly thereafter, he had the distinctive tower added to the front of the building. The von Geyso family inhabited the castle until the mid-19th century. In 1881, it passed into the possession of the industrialist Wenzel from Alexisbad, who later sold it to the Prussian Minister of Commerce von Berlepsch. A large village fire in Roßdorf in 1895 spared the castle itself but destroyed the surrounding ancillary and farm buildings. After World War II, in 1945, the then owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists.
