Vorderburg Castle

The construction of the Vorderburg around the year 1200 is attributed to Ulrich I von Steinach, son of the minnesinger Bligger II von Steinach. Initially, the castle was equally a fief of the bishoprics of Speyer and Worms. After the extinction of the older line of the Lords of Steinach in 1268, ownership passed to the younger line of the Landschad von Steinach. In 1393, the Speyer portion was enfeoffed to Henne Triegel von Daudenzell and his son Hans. Although a castle peace was concluded between the two parts in 1427, the owners of the Speyer portion changed several times before the Landschad von Steinach reappeared as sole owners of the entire Vorderburg in 1474. The castle primarily served as the seat of the line founded by Hans IV. After the death of his grandson Dieter VIII in 1625, the castle passed to Friedrich Landschad von Steinach. With his death in 1653, the noble family of Landschad died out.
