The Walderdorffer Hof in Bensheim is considered the oldest half-timbered house in the South Hessian region.

History+

A dendrochronological study in 2000 revealed that the oak timbers used for its construction were felled in the winter of 1394/1395, suggesting the Hof's completion in 1395. Originally a burgher's house owned by Paul Guttes, it was sold around 1580 to the Walderdorff family, who gave the Hof its name. Around 1630, it passed to the Lords of Gemmingen, and around 1710, it was owned by the Lords of Überbruck and Rodenstein, before being sold back to Bensheim citizens.
