Gauangelloch Castle

The construction of the moated castle on the Angelbach is attributed to Hans I. von Angelach-Braubach. Its first documentary mention occurred in 1369. In the 15th century, specifically 1450 and 1476, the complex came into the possession of the Barons von Bettendorf. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle suffered destruction but was rebuilt in 1665 by Johann Philipp and Helena von Bettendorf. In the 18th century, the castle fell into disrepair again and was largely demolished in 1823. A simple residential building was preserved and restored. On the foundations of the cellar, a castle chapel was built in 1824 from the stones of the destroyed castle, serving as a place of worship until the end of the 19th century before being converted into a barn.
