Liepen Castle

The history of Water Castle Liepen begins in 1337, when the noble family Hahn, whose ancestral seat Basedow was not far away, was enfeoffed with the estate and castle complex. It is believed that the water castle was built at this time as a noble residence and defensive structure. It was constructed on a crescent-shaped moat, which was reinforced to the east by an additional ditch. After the end of the Thirty Years' War, the castle lost its military significance and gradually fell into disrepair. In 1700, a baroque manor house was built on the still intact cellar vaults.
