The ruin of Water Castle Madela is situated in the lowlands of the Magdel and was once a strategically important location in what is now Thuringia. Originally designed as a water castle, its preserved wall remnants and moat are now visible.

History+

The first documented mention of the town of Magdala, then known as Madaha, dates back to the year 874. The name changed several times, including Madela in 1184 and 1193. The lords of Water Castle Madela were the brothers Alexander and Dietrich von Magdala, who served as vassals to the Counts of Orlamünde.
