Wasserschloss Ort is situated on a small island in Lake Traunsee near Gmunden in Upper Austria. The origins of Schloss Ort date back to the 10th century, with initial documentary mentions from 909 and 1053. The complex, originally a moated castle, was rebuilt in its current form after a fire in 1626. In the 17th century, Adam Graf von Herberstorff acquired the castle and made it his residence. He is known as the initiator of the Frankenburg Dice Games, which led to the Upper Austrian Peasant Wars of 1626. After its destruction in the Peasant War, the castle was rebuilt in 1634.
