Rössing Water Castle is a historic structure in Lower Saxony, located in the municipality of Nordstemmen, in the district of Rössing. It is a prominent example of a water castle in the Hildesheim region.

History+

The origins of the current water castle date back to the 12th century, when a medieval castle stood on this site. This initial complex, a motte, was first documented in 1182 and served as a strategic stronghold. In the 16th century, the castle suffered severe damage during military conflicts. On its ruins, Ludolph von Rössing had a new building erected in 1589: the current water castle. It was constructed as a two-story half-timbered building in the Renaissance style.
