In the Kinderhaus district of Münster, Wilkinghege moated castle is located, a former country estate built in the late Renaissance style. Originally a moated castle, it was later converted into a palace and now serves as a hotel.

History+

The origins of the estate date back to 1311, when a moated castle on this site was first documented. This was a feudal property of the von Rhemen zu Barenfeld family before it passed to the Lords of Cleyhorst in the 14th century. From 1550, a moated castle was built on the site of the old castle by the von Steveninck zu Broich family. In 1719, Lord von Harde and his wife Katharina von Keppel commissioned a Baroque-style renovation, carried out by Gottfried Laurenz Pictorius. After several changes of ownership, the castle returned to the possession of the Rhemen zu Barenfeld family in 1779.
