Zwerbach Castle

The "Alte Münze" (Old Mint) is one of the most significant historic buildings in Gengenbach. Its history dates back to the 13th century.

Originally, the building served as an imperial mint, where coins for the city of Gengenbach and the surrounding region were produced. This function gave the building its name.

Over the centuries, the "Alte Münze" underwent numerous changes. In the 16th century, it was converted into a residential building and subsequently served various noble families as a residence.

Architectural Features

The "Alte Münze" impresses with its well-preserved medieval architecture. Particularly striking are:

Inside, historic ceiling paintings and wooden paneling can still be found, bearing witness to the building's rich past.

Today, the "Alte Münze" is privately owned and is carefully maintained by its owners. It is not open to the public, but its impressive facade can be admired from the outside.

The building remains an important landmark in Gengenbach and a testament to the city's rich history.
