Wat Sanghathan

Wat Sanghathan was founded in 2010 in a former after-school care building in the municipality of Schöneiche. It functions as a branch of the identically named monastery in Bang Phai near Bangkok. In its early years, five monks, including a German monk, resided at the monastery. They adhered to the strict rules of Theravada, which means, among other things, that they only consume donated food. The first few years were marked by extensive restoration work to make the previously burnt-out building usable again. Today, the monastery building is fully restored and functional. It serves as a residence for monks from the Thai main monastery who temporarily live in Germany. In 2015, the abbot Phra Rachata made a donation to the municipality of Schöneiche to support refugees.

Wat Sanghathan monastery is located in Schöneiche near Berlin, a municipality in the federal state of Brandenburg in Germany.

Today, Wat Sanghathan is an active Buddhist monastery and a public meditation center. It is open to visitors who wish to engage with Theravada Buddhism.
