The Castle can be visited

In the Czech town of Ostrov nad Ohří, the White Castle Ostrov, also known as Bílý zámek, is located. It is in the Karlovy Vary District in the Northwest region.

History+

The origins of the site date back to 1207, when the settlement of Zlaucowerde was first mentioned and possessed a fortress. In 1434, Emperor Sigismund pledged the fortress and the Elbogen district to his chancellor Kaspar Schlick. After a division of the dominion in 1489, Kaspar II. Schlick built a new castle on the site of the fortress, which became the seat of the Schlackenwerth line of the Schlick family. The town of Schlackenwerth acquired the dominion in 1585, but was dispossessed in 1623 due to its involvement in the Estates' Uprising. Julius Heinrich von Sachsen-Lauenburg, an imperial field marshal, became the new owner.
