The residential tower of Beuren is a castle complex in the Eichsfeld region of Thuringia. It has an unusual shape.

History+

The first documented mention of Beuren dates back to July 7, 1128, when a fortified manor already existed around which the village developed. Around the year 1200, Konrad von Bodenstein founded a Cistercian nunnery in Niederbeuren. Through income from tolls and escort services, Beuren transformed from a market village in 1238 into a city by 1269. The slender round tower, still visible in the center of the village today, once served as the city's toll tower.
