Rothensee Tower

The origin of the three-story residential tower is dated to the 13th century, with a possible construction around 1200. Romanesque elements such as a round-arched door and a bricked-up round-arched window underscore its age. The tower was likely built by the Knights of Rothensee, who are documented in the region between 1225 and 1313. It primarily served to protect against attacks in the border area with Slavic settlements. Originally, the current basement floor was at ground level and served as a storage room. In the 17th century, it belonged to Hieronymus von Wüstenhoff, later to bourgeois families and the von Platens.
