Lehmen Castle

The first documented mention of the Lehmen residential tower dates back to 1245. Dendrochronological examinations of the timber used suggest that the tower was erected around 1233/34 or shortly thereafter. The Lords of Lehmen, a knightly family first mentioned in 1227 and holding high offices, were the original owners. After the male line died out in the 17th century, ownership passed to the de Roben family. Around 1801, the estate was abandoned, and the associated settlement became deserted in the 19th century. Between 1986 and 1987, the tower was restored by the local community of Ediger-Eller.
