Wormser Hof Palace

The Wormser Hof is a historic building in the old town of Heidelberg. The Wormser Hof was first documented in 1409 as the town house of the Bishops of Worms. In the second half of the 15th century, various important humanists, including Rudolf Agricola, stayed here as guests of the bishop, electoral chancellor, and curator of the university, Johann von Dalberg. In 1616, the building passed into electoral possession. In the following years, the Renaissance portal, still visible today, was created.

After the end of the Thirty Years' War, Lord Craven acquired the house, whereupon it was referred to by the population as the English House. The Harmonie cinema, which was housed in the Wormser Hof from 1956 to 2013, got its name from the Harmonie civic society, which owned the Hof in the 19th century. The small square on the north side of the house was created by the demolition of the baroque neighboring house in 1959 and was named Theaterplatz due to the municipal stage bordering the square to the west.
