Würzburger Castle
The Old Würzburg Castle in the center of Remlingen was the local official residence of the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg.
Würzburg Castle was built on the walls of a former moated castle around 1400 and was a mighty late medieval four-wing complex approx. 50 x 50 meters with 8 towers, inner and outer moats - separated by a rampart. 3 towers and a large part of the rampart, as well as moats, are still preserved.
Official Residence+
The rule over the market town of Remlingen was shared by the Counts of Castell in Castell Castle (Remlingen) and the Prince-Bishopric with its seat in the Old Würzburg Castle.
Current Use+
The village renewal program, in its local development concept from 1991, set general goals to protect such a gem in the village center. The entire area is a protected monument. Part of the former castle rampart is now a park-like green area.
