Zisterzienserinnenkloster Bonn Graurheindorf

The first documented mention of the convent dates to around 1230, though its foundation must have occurred earlier. In 1242, Archbishop Konrad von Hochstaden of Cologne confirmed the convent's patronage rights over the local parish church of St. Margaretha, which subsequently also served as the convent church. Its geographical location just outside Bonn repeatedly exposed the convent to the consequences of military conflicts and looting throughout its history. Spiritual oversight was provided by the abbot of Heisterbach Abbey. In 1778, a new convent building was constructed. The dissolution of the community took place in 1802 as part of the secularization.

The convent is situated in the Graurheindorf district of the city of Bonn, in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

The former convent church of St. Margaretha was demolished in 1806. The parish church was subsequently established in the convent building, which had only been newly constructed in 1778. This building underwent a Neo-Gothic renovation in 1875 under Vinzenz Statz, during which it was expanded to include a tower, among other additions. Visible medieval building fabric remains in the old convent wall directly along the Rhine.
