The foundation of Klosterhäseler occurred in 1239. It was established as a Cistercian convent and was dedicated to Saint Peter. Over the centuries, the monastery shaped the spiritual and cultural life of its surroundings. In the course of the Reformation and the associated secularization, the convent was dissolved in 1540, thus ending its existence as a spiritual institution.
