Zisterzienserinnenkloster Langendorf (Greisslau)

The founding of the convent is dated to 1220, with a deed of gift from 1230 confirming its existence. The convent church, still visible today, was built around 1400. With the introduction of the Reformation in 1539, the convent underwent a fundamental change. It subsequently experienced several changes of ownership and served as a noble ladies' foundation from 1758 to 1774. From 1811, part of the complex was used by the neighboring orphanage, before the entire property was converted into a manor farm in 1838. The convent church itself was unusually used as a tobacco barn from 1957 to 1991, but today it is a venue for events.

The historic complex is situated in the Burgenlandkreis district, a region in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt in Central Germany. It is part of the Langendorf district of the city of Weißenfels.

The rectangular convent church, a ashlar building with a gabled roof, dates from around 1400. Inside, it has a flat ceiling and features a three-aisled, two-bay nuns' gallery with ribbed vaulting in the west. Parts of the former convent complex are now enclosed by school and manor buildings. The 19th-century manor house, built on the site of the former eastern side of the cloister, continues to be used as a school building today.
