The former Cistercian convent of Namedy, located in what is now the Andernach district of Namedy in Rhineland-Palatinate, was an important religious center in the region. The preserved convent church, an early Gothic building, now serves as the Catholic parish church of St. Bartholomäus and bears witness to the long history of the site.
History+
The founding of the Cistercian convent of St. Katharina is presumed to have occurred between 1208 and 1225, with its first documented mention dating back to 1255. The development of the convent was closely linked to the patrician family Husmann, who resided at the nearby Namedy Castle, provided several abbesses, and acted as benefactors. In 1573, the convent was dissolved by Jakob III von Eltz, the Archbishop of Trier.
