Farm estate
Patershausen

The former Cistercian convent of Patershausen is located in the Heusenstamm district of Hesse, nestled between Heusenstamm and Dietzenbach on the right bank of the Bieber river. Today, it serves as a farm estate and stands as a testament to medieval monastic culture.
History+
The origins of Patershausen date back to the 13th century. An initial monastic settlement, possibly Benedictine, was abandoned in the first half of the 13th century. In 1252, it was refounded as a Cistercian convent, initiated by Ulrich II von Hagen-Münzenberg, who bequeathed the property to his mother and sister. The founding convent members came from the Cistercian convent of Eisenach. The consecration by the Archbishop of Mainz, Werner von Eppstein, gave the convent the name “Corona Virginum,” which, however, did not prevail. The convent was dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Despite initial economic difficulties and the necessity of new constructions following the decay of the previous buildings, the convent gained increasing prosperity through donations. It was incorporated into the Cistercian Order in 1267 and existed until its dissolution in 1558.
