The former Cistercian convent of St. Katharina in Wolmirstedt, situated in the Börde region of Saxony-Anhalt, represents a historically significant complex. Originally founded in the 13th century, it bears witness to the rich monastic past of the area.

History+

The Cistercian convent of St. Katharina and St. Pankratius was established in 1228 north of Magdeburg, on the banks of the Ohre river. In the very year of its foundation, the convent played a significant role in the establishment of Medingen Abbey. During the Reformation, the monastic institution was transformed into a noble women's foundation in 1577, which continued to exist until 1810. Of the original foundation buildings, the so-called New Abbey from 1732 is still preserved today. The current Neo-Gothic St. Katharinen Church was erected in 1877 on the site of the former monastic church.

The convent is located in Wolmirstedt, a town in the Börde district of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.
