The Cistercian Monastery of Klostermarienberg, a structure in the Austrian Burgenland, is a place with a history dating back to the Stone Age. Today, it serves as a cultural center and houses a museum.

History+

The origins of Klostermarienberg Monastery can be traced back to 1197 when it was founded by Dominik Bors, the Ban of Slavonia, as a Cistercian abbey. It was a daughter monastery of Heiligenkreuz Abbey. The monastery suffered damage multiple times, including around 1240 and again around 1440. Complete destruction occurred in 1532 during the Turkish invasions, after which the monks abandoned the monastery, and it subsequently served as a quarry.
