Longuich Castle

Longuich Castle was built by Knight Platt von Longuich as a residence and was first mentioned in 1360 as a fief of the Imperial Abbey of St. Maximin. By the 15th century, the complex was in disrepair, leading Platt von Longuich to receive permission in 1496 to fortify the house. He subsequently equipped it in late Gothic style with oriel windows and battlements. The castle changed hands multiple times through inheritance, passing to families such as von Bentzerath and von Geispitzheim. In 1666, the castle was judicially divided due to disputes among its owners. At the end of the 18th century, St. Maximin Abbey acquired the Alte Burg. Around 1790, the third floor was removed and replaced with a gable roof, giving the castle its current appearance. After secularization in 1803, part of the fortified house was used for agriculture, the other as an oil mill. Since 1980, both halves have been restored and have since served gastronomic purposes.
