Falkenstein Castle

The history of Falkenstein Castle begins in the mid-12th century, when a Gotebert von Falkenstein was first mentioned as a member of a family bearing this name. Around 1260, the Falkenstein dominion passed into the possession of the Lords of Faimingen. At the beginning of the 14th century, the Speth von Faimingen appeared as new owners, before the castle itself was first mentioned in historical sources in 1331. In that year, Count Johann I von Helfenstein acquired the complex. Through his descendants, Ulrich VI and his daughter Anna, who was married to Duke Friedrich von Teck-Owen, Falkenstein passed to the Dukes of Teck around 1359. In 1390, Duke Friedrich sold the castle to Albrecht III von Rechberg zu Staufeneck.
