Guttenberg Castle

Guttenberg Castle is first mentioned in 1231 as being in the possession of Knight Heinrich von Zobel (Heinrich von Guttenberg). In 1303, the castle was divided into several castle fiefs. In a written record of the episcopal fiefs, the following division is mentioned:

• Knight Friedrich Zobel

• Andreas Zobel von Heidingsfeld

• Friedrich Zobel von Giebelstadt and Heinrich Zobel von Heidingsfeld

• Noble squire Otto and Friedrich Zobel

In 1306-07, the married-in Vogt Götz von Rettersbach received half a share of Guttenberg Castle. In 1319, Knights Conrad and Heinrich Zobel together held a share of the castle. In 1327, the brothers Dietrich Zobel von Guttenberg and Berthold Zobel von Heidingsfeld were the feudal lords of the castle. From 1336 to 1347, Andreas Zobel (the Younger) von Heidingsfeld is named as a co-owner of the castle. In 1345, in addition to Andreas Zobel, Johann Zobel von Giebelstadt and Heinrich Zobel also became co-owners. In 1346-47, Konrad Zobel and the brothers Andreas Friedrich Zobel were owners of the castle. In 1349, Knight Dietrich Zobel von Guttenberg took over his brother Friedrich's share of the castle in addition to his own. In 1366, noble squire Johannes Zobel received the castle share of his father of the same name. In 1384, Erbolt Zobel von Giebelstadt was in possession of a castle share. In the 15th century, members of the Guttenberg line were enfeoffed with shares, mostly a quarter and an eighth. In 1502, Stephan Zobel zu Giebelstadt sold his share of the castle (half the castle) with 1500 Morgen of forest for 3000 Gulden. In 1515, the sons of the deceased Georg Zobel sold the other half of the castle. After the complete sale, the castle passed into Würzburg possession. In 1525, the castle was destroyed in the Peasants' War.
