Vörbach Castle

The Vörbach castle was first documented in 1140 as property of the Counts Palatine of Tübingen. In 1330, the brothers Albrecht and Diem von Steinhilben appear as the first named owners; their father Dietrich von Steinhilben had probably received the castle as a fief. Count Burkhard sold Vörbach to Count Palatine Ruprecht I of the Palatinate in 1360. In 1440, the complex passed from Count Otto I to Counts Ludwig I and Ulrich of Württemberg. Until 1483, the fief was granted to the Lords of Emershofen, who sold Vörbach for 1,800 guilders to the Lords of Ehingen. Jörg von Ehingen was enfeoffed with the castle by Count Eberhard im Bart in 1485.
