Waldau Castle
The Waldau ruin is a castle ruin in the Buchenberg district of the municipality of Königsfeld in the Black Forest-Baar district in Baden-Württemberg. From the high medieval castle, the keep, remains of the residential buildings, and parts of the surrounding walls are still preserved.
Waldau Castle was founded by the Counts of Urach between 1218 and 1236. In the 13th century, it passed to the collateral line of the Counts of Fürstenberg, founded by Count Heinrich. In 1325, it was partially destroyed in the war between the city of Villingen and the Counts of Fürstenberg. The Fürstenbergs renounced reconstruction and granted the castle ruin to the Rottweil citizen Bernhard Haugk. In 1445, it was transferred by the Haugk family to Count Ludwig I of Württemberg. In 1885, it passed from the private ownership of the House of Württemberg to the State of Württemberg, whose legal successor, the State of Baden-Württemberg, still owns the castle today.
State of Preservation+
Mainly preserved is the keep, which can be climbed via a spiral staircase made of concrete with a steel railing built inside it, as well as large parts of the surrounding walls, the walls of the southern residential building, and remains of the outer curtain walls.
Beck Farm+
Next to the castle, the Beck Farm was built around 1822. This building, still inhabited today, has remained largely unchanged since then. The Beck Farm is a cultural monument of particular importance registered in the monument book of the State of Baden-Württemberg.
