Château de La Frémoire

The Château de la Frémoire is a historic château located in the commune of Vertou, in the Loire-Atlantique department of the Pays de la Loire region in western France, south of Nantes. It stands on a height overlooking the valley of the Sèvre Nantaise and the Vertou racecourse, with views across the vineyard landscape and towards the church of Saint-Fiacre.
The original château dated from 1725. It was partially destroyed during the Wars of the Vendée and rebuilt around 1860 in the fashionable style of the “folies” (elegant country residences of the Nantes bourgeoisie) by the architect Bourgerel.
Since 1969 (and more firmly associated from the late 1980s) the estate has belonged to the Fédération des vins de Nantes (via a dedicated SCI). It houses the professional bodies of the Muscadet and Gros-Plant producers as well as related organisations. The site functions as the official showcase – often described as the “embassy” – of the Muscadet and the wines of the Nantes region.
From 2017 the château and its park (approximately 4 hectares) hosted popular summer events under the name “Homard à la Frémoire” in partnership with the Voyage à Nantes. After major renovation works completed in 2024, the ground floor was fully opened to the public with a large bar, reception rooms and a professional kitchen. It now operates as a restaurant and seasonal guinguette dedicated to local wines and cuisine, with capacity for 150–200 covers, remaining a key venue for the promotion of the Nantes vineyards.
