Château de Mauriac

The origins of Château de Mauriac lie in the 13th century, when Guiriaudus de Mauricius initiated the construction of this Templar castle. Its erection continued into the 14th century. The estate was further embellished thanks to the wealth of its owners, derived from the cultivation of woad. During the Wars of Religion in the 16th century, the castle suffered damage: Catholic forces destroyed parts of the battlements because the then owner, Bertrand de Rabastens, was a Protestant.
