History+
The estate's history dates back to the early 14th century, when the land was already cultivated. In the late 14th century, a fortified structure was built approximately 300 meters from the Gironde estuary to protect it during the Hundred Years' War. The fortress tower of that time, "La Tour en Saint-Maubert," gave the winery its name. Following the Treaty of Castillon in 1453, English rule over the area ended. Although the original tower no longer exists, a new round tower, "La Tour de Saint-Lambert," was erected on the estate around 1620. Its development into one of the leading wineries began in the late 17th century when Alexandre de Ségur integrated Château Lafite into his holdings.
