History+
The origins of the estate date back to the Middle Ages. It was owned by a winemaking family from Bordeaux and was inherited by Bertrand de Got, who later became a bishop, then a cardinal in the Roman Curia, and finally elected as Pope Clement V. Since 1305, the estate has borne its current name. Pope Clement V subsequently transferred the property to the Diocese of Bordeaux, which developed it into a model estate. During the French Revolution in 1791, all church properties were confiscated and sold, after which the banker Charles Peixotto acquired the estate. Under Jean-Baptiste Clerc, it experienced a flourishing period, during which it was significantly expanded and the current castle building was erected.
